About Me

A new podcast by Nicholas Watson.

In 2009, I quit saying that my career was in television. I had a plan to change the world for the better. “Plan” is exactly… exactly the wrong word. I had a belief that it was my job – everyone’s job – to leave the world better than they found it.

I didn’t have a plan at all. I had a desire. So I took a first step1, I started working at NYC HIV & Homelessness non-prift Housing Works; volunteering for Housing Works was the first time that I had heard the term Social Enterprise that has become my life’s work.

I started almost literally in the mailroom there. Since then I have been starting and running social enterprise businesses at non-profits first there and how for Project HOME in Philadelphia.

The work is hard and rewarding and stressful and transcendent2. The people that I’ve met and worked with have been inspiring. Yes, all of them.

This is a podcast about the people who do the, sometimes achily slow, work of trying to fix some part of our world.

Please get on the mailing list and follow the journey.

  1. the process of taking one small step that you know is right when you can’t see all of the other steps in something I now call “vacuuming the truck.” After an anecdote that I heard that I’m sure I will explain. 🙂
  2. This is just a mental note to pick a better word than “transcendent.”
